- Weekday working women have priority of any team. Players must be 21 years or older. Women currently playing Pacific Sun or any other daytime league are eligible for Sundowners as long as they don't exceed 50% of the roster. The name of the other leagues must be noted beside their name on the roster. This provision is subject to annual review by the membership. USTA leagues and other weekend leagues are not restricted.
- Usual USTA rules of play and the SCTA honor code of ethics shall govern play.
- All rostered players must be rated by a Sundowners Tennis League Board approved rating tennis professional. Players may be added to the rosters only at the beginning of each half and must obtain an approved rating prior to the Pre-Season and Mid-Season Captains meetings. Copies of roster changes must be distributed at these meetings. Players may not be scheduled to play until they are rated and rating card has been submitted at the meetings. Player ratings can only be changed by the Sundowners Tennis League Board. Submissions for player re-ratings must be submitted to the Board/Ratings Chairperson prior to the bump meeting to be considered and the player's rating will only be changed if approved by the Board. Captains will be notified via the bump list. All players re-rated (bumped down) by the Board due to this request must only play in the new rating (they cannot play up) for one entire season. Any protests to re-ratings as a result of the bump meeting need to be in writing to the Board prior to the Pre-Season Meeting.
- Clubs that play the "3 Court" schedule means that the home team captain has the option of what 3 matches will play first (generally, the 3 singles play first, followed by the 3 doubles teams). The home team captain must contact the opposing captain at least 5 days before each match to confirm the start time and location as indicated on the team application, any deviations must be communicated and agreed upon at least two weeks prior to the match, along with information indicated in item 4 of Duties of the Captain.
- SCORING - Each match shall consist of 2 sets, using the 12-point tie-breaker at 6-all. In the Moonlighter Divisions, regular scoring applies. In the Evening Star Division, teams hosting on a 6 court schedule will use regular scoring, and teams hosting a 3 court schedule will play no-ad for the singles matches, and either no-ad or regular scoring for doubles matches, by mutual agreement of the players. Each set won counts as a team point. At the end of the evening's matches, a winner is determined.
- By the most sets won.
- If tied, then by the most games won.
- If still tied, then by a 12-point tie-breaker by the team of the last match to finish. This could be a singles team if they were the last ones off the courts.
- A defaulted match:
- A position not fielded is in "Default." (score is recorded as 6-0, 6-0.) No player may play both singles and doubles in the same evening. If an unrostered and/or unrated player is used, the match will be considered a "friendly" match and is in "Default."
- A team default is defined as greater than 50% (or 6 sets) of a match not being played at the scheduled time. Probation is defined as a disciplinary period of time during which repeated behavior is not allowed.
- First team default will result in:
- Scores of the entire half season (whichever half the default occurs in) being disqualified.
- Team being place on probation for the rest of the season.
- The Late Penalty Rule is mandatory and not at the discretion of either captain.
- 15 minutes late...Loss of 1 game
- Each following 5 minutes .....Loss of 1 game (Warm-up is limited to 5 minutes, if late)
- 30 minutes late.....defaulted match (score is recorded 6-0, 6-0)
- It is the responsibility of BOTH captains to keep scores of all matches, along with the names and ratings of players who participted in each match and to mail in score sheets once a month to the Assistant Tournament Director. It is EXTREMELY important that this be done in a timely fashion.
- No coaching during playing.
- Any team that enters the Sundowners Tennis League and withdraws after the schedule is made forfeits its entry fee.
- On a 3-court schedule, players playing the second rotation should arrive 1 hour after the first rotation starts. Second round may deviate from 7:30 pm start time upon mutual agreement between captains, but remember to define default rules before the match is scheduled to start.
- In the Evening Star Division, matches played agains the southernmost teams (Nellie Niguel) by the northernmost teams (La Habra, Ridgeline, Yorba Linda and Fullerton) will be played and hosted at Nellie Gail/Laguna Niguel during both halves of play unless the northern teams are able to provide 6 courts. Nellie Niguel will provide courts at one location and notify the northernmost teams of court location four weeks prior to match.
- Maximum warm-up should be no more than 10 minutes.
